photohygiene
photohygiene is a collaboration of two visual artists trying to cope with their mechanisms of wanting to feel "clean." Besides the routine experience of us not wanting to be repelled by how we interact with own environment, we also choose beauty over disorder. when we push the button on the camera, we identify an image as photogenic. it is an attempt to reconnect with the physicality of the body, which is often overlooked in a society with a complicated history of shame, especially when it comes to physicality, sexuality, and mental health. body fluids, in particular, are frequently perceived as disgusting, unnatural, or in need of concealment. a disconnection from the flesh is further exacerbated - a challenge to appreciating the raw, unmediated experience of physicality. long live the new flesh!
