ONLY HORSES LEFT UPRIGHT

In 2024, many horses from the Argentine Army escaped onto the Panamerican highway. It was not an isolated incident. There are records of similar escapes in cities around the world — military horses tha stopped obeying. Only Horses Left Upright begins with that real archive: anonymous found footage, images captured on cell phones and traffic cameras, news fragments. Disposable material documenting the impossible. From that corpus, the video constructs an alternative history: before being caught, the horses passed through the monuments of their cities and toppled the riders. The bronze commanders lie on the ground, arms still raised. Only the horses were left upright. The piece offers no clear distinction between what happened and what might have happened. Found footage and AI-generated images coexist without hierarchy, raising a question about the status of the contemporary image: does it matter if it is real, when the plausible is already enough to become myth? An essay about escape as a form of power, the archive as fiction, and monuments as promises the animals never made.
