One minute Story Archives (sample)

Frequently but not on a strict schedule, I share a one minute video on Instagram as a story. Stories disappear after 24 hours, although I do archive them on Vimeo. These short sketches are how I learn and develop the visual language I want Geography of Memory to speak. I work within tight constraints: each piece must be no longer than a minute, filmed and edited entirely on my phone, and posted to Instagram. Everything that I am, that I used to be, that I remember, that I look forward to, all of it gets poured through a kind of colander to create these pieces. It always starts with a specific constraint, usually tied to the format I'm drawn to, which is itself shaped by everything I am. For example, I choose one-minute stories on Instagram to make these experimental videos (a convenient term to distinguish what I do from conventional commercial narrative), and the material is whatever video happens to stand out on my phone in that moment. The tool is a mobile editing app. These guidelines are the strainer, the rules of the game. They also force me to be less precious, take more risks, and push my imagination further than I think it can go. This is a sample of some of the stories. There are over 300 of them on Vimeo. https://vimeo.com/showcase/11466921?share=copy&fl=sc&fe=fs
