Observatory Of The Submerged

Observatory of the Submerged is a speculative video work that investigates what exists beyond the threshold of human perception — silent life forms, faint signals, and choreographies suspended between the organic and the technological. Filmed in a lake near Berlin, the video captures 3D-printed artificial organisms with integrated lighting systems floating on the water's surface. Inspired by the aquatic plant Utricularia foliosa, these sculptures pulse with light, suggesting a subtle responsiveness to their environment and to the invisible life beneath them — generating the illusion of living behavior. The work explores how technology can perform as living matter: a material capable of emitting signals, responding to context, and constructing fictions of life. By intertwining art, biology, and speculative design, Observatory of the Submerged proposes a contemplative space where observation becomes a poetic act — and where the boundary between natural discovery and invention dissolves entirely.
