NANA <> REAPER

A terminal conversation between NANA, a character from Godard's 1962 Vivre sa vie, and the Reaper agent, a multi-model LLM agent fine-tuned with movie scripts, video game dialogues, plays, novellas, essays, poems, science-fiction literature, academic research, blog posts, pseudo-religious scriptures, and more. This agent was created to embody a personification of the cyber grim reaper. NANA's prompts are a loose transcription from the scene "Nana, The Unwitting Philosopher" that are then passed on automatically to the agent. The video is a simple screen recording of one conversation loop out of many. The artwork is meant to be a live running computer performance where NANA and the Reaper constantly have the same conversation. Every time the script ends, the conversation memory is cleared, and the script starts again. The agent's responses vary through repetition, and their quality changes with each iteration. In the original scene, Nana talks to a philosopher she randomly meets in a café. In this performance, the philosopher is replaced by an agentic machine.
