IPNCNE CASE

IPNCEN CASE is a digital video work that begins with a phone case I purchased from Aliexpress. Upon receiving it, I was surprised to find that the phone case maker had, in a provocative and appropriative way, embedded a blurred image of himself holding a phone into the Nokia case design. As a craft, phone cases are mass-produced in the hundreds of thousands every day. They are closely linked to successive updates of phones but are fundamentally different. Phone cases serve as the skin, decoration, and accessory for phones. They can flow between different materials and forms, becoming "interesting," "vulgar," or "trendy" items. Their significance lies solely in their functionality, though, lacking a unified purpose. This allows them to escape being systematized by the production process, leaving room for individual initiative, allow for more whim, or momentary impulse.
