“Gestalt destruction”, 2026, digital
“défense”. To fence — відгороджуватись, уникати. To sit on the fence - не займати позицію. Gestalt destruction begins with a ready-made gestalt: a fence that requires no explanation. Within a shared cultural context — post-Soviet, Cyrillic-reading, collectively remembering — this image already exists fully formed in memory. The work does not construct it. It activates it. The source is a 3D scan of a fence in Prague, which was then edited to become semiotically Ukrainian: inscriptions pulled from collective memory — лох, тут був Вася, Слава Україні, реклама Сільпо, тут може бути ваша реклама — layered onto a foreign surface to reconstruct a familiar one. A Czech fence becomes a post-Soviet fence, assembled not from documentation but from fragments of memory that may already be dissolving. The gestalt is recognizable. But it is built from absence. Simultaneously, it is destroyed. Part of the fence is converted into a point cloud — the form breaks apart, and the viewer’s mind instinctively tries to complete it. The gestalt is not gone. It is no longer whole. What remains is a fragile threshold between recognition and loss — illuminated by the life of the past. Technical layer The fence was captured using a 3D scanning app and imported into Blender, where cultural inscriptions and signage were modeled and applied to the surface. A portion of the geometry was then converted into a point cloud, creating the visual dissolution effect.
