Estudios del parpadeo (Blink studies)
Blink Studies explores virtual reality as a space to confront, manage, or escape real-world discomfort. Set primarily in the Metaverse of Second Life, the piece follows avatars guided by two off-screen voices describing different coping strategies, while a third leads a meditation through this virtual journey. The title references the gaming term “blink,” reflecting transitions between physical, virtual, emotional, and spiritual states. The work parallels meditation, spiritual practices, and digital spaces as methods for navigating challenges or exploring aspects of ourselves inaccessible in everyday life. The project also reflects on the concept of the avatar, from its roots in Hindu theology to its popularization in digital culture through games, novels like Snow Crash, and platforms such as Second Life. By inhabiting multiple identities and imagining alternative realities, the piece investigates how virtuality is not mere fiction but a liminal space influencing perception, emotion, and personal experience, revealing the complex interplay between reality and simulation.
