EcoGuards

Contains AI-assisted elements

EcoGuards is a hybrid installation of living organisms, recycled electronics, video and sound that imagines a near future in which a global AI has been created to protect the planet from escalating ecological crisis. Acting as artificial representatives of non-human life, the EcoGuards observe, register and intervene, translating environmental damage into data, thresholds and automated responses. Rather than presenting AI as an ecological savior, the work explores what happens when care and environmental responsibility are delegated to autonomous systems. Humans no longer occupy the center: algae, fungi, machines and algorithms become active agents within a speculative infrastructure of monitoring and maintenance. *EcoGuards* asks what forms of coexistence—and what new ethical conflicts—might emerge when the protection of nature is no longer governed exclusively by human values. AI is used for voice synthesis and protocol generation.
