DÉJÀ-VU

déjà vu 2025 — Multi-screen video installation, fine art print and video projection The installation breaks down visual narrative across three monitors of different aspect ratios (horizontal, vertical and ultra-wide) and a video projection onto a large-format photographic print. The process begins with fragments of a 1968 16 mm film, digitised and colourised using artificial intelligence. Each frame is printed on paper, manually reworked with colour and Letraset dry-transfer lettering, then rescanned and re-edited into an animation with an original soundtrack. At the centre of the work, a female figure travelling by train — a suspended non-place between Genoa and Milan, at once biographical and symbolic. Drawing on the Freudian concept of the uncanny (Unheimlichkeit), déjà vu investigates the perception of familiarity within the unfamiliar: an image constructed through the layering of memories, languages and technologies.
