Beirut SkinHead Movement

Beirut SkinHead Movement is an “investigational film” rather than a scientific production. The film begins with an apparently simple observation: a large proportion of men encountered in Beirut are bald or losing their hair. Rather than treating this as an established medical question, the film follows street gossip and popular hypotheses about why this happens. The film’s central device is deliberately humorous and investigative: the filmmakers take an everyday visual phenomenon in Beirut and construct an inquiry around it. The film asks why so many men in the city lose their hair early in life, while discovering that people recognise the phenomenon but have no agreed explanation for it.
