AMBERSTICHE

AMBERSTICHE is a 5-minute moving image work that merges live-action and 3D animation, unfolding as a ritualistic passage of transformation. The film follows four hybrid beings, part human and part animal, as they enact their final moments before becoming suspended within amber, a luminous substance that both preserves and immobilises. As movement gradually dissolves into stillness, the work inhabits a liminal space between life and afterlife, presence and disappearance. Drawing on folkloric traditions in which animals function as spiritual intermediaries, the film reimagines amber as a threshold rather than a container, a site where bodies are held in transition. These figures exist as both relics and ghosts, their suspension echoing processes of fossilisation while suggesting a state of unresolved becoming. Through this transformation, AMBERSTICHE reflects on humanity’s relationship to the natural world and the impulse to capture, control, and preserve. The work considers the lasting consequences of human intervention, where beauty and violence become inseparable, and where traces of life remain embedded within altered ecosystems, suspended in time yet never fully at rest.
