After 2020

After 2020 is a road movie tracing a journey begun after the artist’s younger sibling died shortly before a planned trip together. Travelling through Korea and Japan, the artist follows memories of childhood, family, absence, and places his sibling may have seen or wished to reach. Combining travel footage, quiet urban scenes, and essayistic narration, the film reconstructs a life that will not enter official history and attends to the present that continues after loss. It ends at Tsushima’s Korean Viewpoint, where Zainichi Koreans once looked across the sea toward a homeland to which they could no longer return again.
