A Tasty Fish

“A Tasty Fish” is a stop-motion animated short film that began with the memory of my aborted older sister. I felt compelled to make this film because I have carried a sense of guilt toward her since childhood—she could not live, while I could. Despite this, I did not want to imagine her as something frightening or distant. Instead, I longed to know her and to share gentle, ordinary moments together. Deep down, I hoped she was someone who loved and supported me. Through this film, I try to give form to that wish—to transform an invisible emotional landscape into a tangible story, shaped by my thoughts, fears, and hopes. The work also reflects on the relationship between humans and nature, and the inevitability of a shared end. I chose paper-cut stop-motion animation because it connects closely to my childhood memories: cutting, pasting, and folding paper. This tactile process echoes the fragile and indistinct quality of memory. It allows me to approach the memory of my sister from a child’s perspective, inviting the viewer into a space where imagination and memory softly blur.
